Home robots: appliance or companion?

With Jibo taking on the role of the top 5 most funded Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign, and Pepper expected to arrive at stores in Japan early 2015, it’s not a secret that there’s a lot of excitement about interactive, social robots determined to enter our homes.

They may be different from vacuum robots that continue to dominate the ‘robots at home’ market in that they are not meant to help you do house chores. Rather, they are also being marketed as companions.
